Rolfing

Rolfing Structural Integration is named after its founder, Dr. Ida P. Rolf.  It is a form of bodywork that reorganizes the connective tissues called fascia, throughout our body.  These connective tissues surround, support and penetrate all our muscles, bones, nerves, and organs.  Rolfing works on this web-like complex of fascia to release, realign, and balance the whole body.

While massage therapy addresses muscular adhesions, Rolfing addresses fascial patterns of restriction. Rolfing can help to ease the pain and dysfunction associated with:
Injury or trauma – car accidents, sports injuries, falls Surgeries – particularly those that involve deep or multiple incisions Again process – in which fascia becomes more fibrous and looses pliability Chronic misuse or overuse – poor posture, repetitive motion activities

Typically, Rolfing addresses imbalances in the fascial network over the course of ten sessions.  The “ten-series” frees first the superficial fascia then the deep fascia, with each session building upon the previous to create support for the next level of release.  For people interested in a briefer introduction to the work, a “three-series” can be tailored to individual needs.

IInfant Massage

Body Dynamics offers Infant Massage through one on one sessions or a five-week group class.  Working with the parent and infant (ages 6 weeks to pre-crawling), the therapist guides you through the strokes and techniques for bonding with your new child.

Infant massage not only helps to promote bonding and healthy attachment, but also stimulates body systems, relaxes tension of both parent and child, and helps relieve colic, gas and other growing pains during infancy.  Babies communicate through neurobehavioral cues.  A cluster of cues can both show engagement or disengagement and give the parent insight into a baby’s behavioral state.  Infant massage can help the parent to recognize these body cues and respond to them though massage strokes.

Each week parents learn strokes for a new part of the body while reviewing strokes from previous classes.  A specific routine for relief from coli/gas is discussed as well as gentle movements that may be helpful for relieving discomfort and stress.
